The Importance of Intent in Our Everyday Life
(Adapted from one of Margaret Paul’s podcasts on innerbonding.com) April 2, 2025
One of the most transformative lessons of Inner Bonding® is the profound impact of our underlying intent in every thought, word, and action. At any given moment, we are faced with a fundamental choice: to act from an intention of love—nurturing ourselves and fostering deeper connections—or to operate from fear, seeking control, avoidance, or protection. This seemingly simple distinction shapes the trajectory of our emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.
The wounded self, formed through the conditioning of early childhood, believes it is practicing self-care but, in reality, engages in behaviors that undermine genuine well-being. It is trapped in a cycle of temporary relief, mistaking momentary gratification for true healing:
⚡ It justifies unhealthy indulgences—soothing stress with chocolate cake or numbing emotions with alcohol—without addressing the root of discomfort.
⚡ It reacts to others with withdrawal, resentment, or anger, mistaking these responses for self-protection when they only deepen isolation and suffering.
⚡ It externalizes responsibility for emotions, expecting others to alleviate its pain rather than embracing self-healing.
⚡ It seeks escape through impulsive spending, gambling, or other fleeting distractions, prioritizing short-term pleasure over long-term stability.
⚡ It tolerates emotional dumping from others, fearing that setting boundaries will lead to rejection or guilt rather than recognizing that self-respect is an act of love.
In contrast, the Loving Adult navigates life with awareness, integrity, and self-compassion, recognizing that true self-care is an ongoing practice of conscious choice. It understands that well-being is cultivated through deliberate actions that honor one’s deepest needs:
🌱 It fosters inner peace by embracing self-love and engaging in Inner Bonding, rather than relying on food, alcohol, or material distractions to fill emotional voids.
🌱 It asserts clear, respectful boundaries, accepting that personal empowerment does not come from controlling others but from standing firmly in self-worth.
🌱 It processes emotions with compassion, acknowledging and releasing pain rather than projecting it onto others.
🌱 It manages stress through mindfulness and self-reflection, choosing sustainable practices over addictive coping mechanisms.
🌱 It nurtures physical health through proper rest, nourishment, and mindful financial decisions that ensure stability rather than serving as an escape.
🌱 It communicates openly, offering support to others without becoming an emotional dumping ground, preserving both personal energy and authentic connection.
At its core, the loving adult knows that the intention behind our choices is what shapes the quality of our lives. Living with an intention to love—rather than to control or avoid—leads to deep fulfillment, resilience, and a lasting sense of inner peace.

The Wounded Self: An Inner Bonding® Perspective on the Ego March 19, 2025
(Adapted from one of Margaret Paul’s free podcasts)
The wounded self emerges when the true self—your inner child—is not seen, valued, or cherished and instead experiences physical, emotional, sexual, and/or spiritual abuse by being physically hurt, violated, abandoned, yelled at, criticized, or neglected. These painful moments create trauma that gives rise to false beliefs, which can deeply affect your current life, manifesting as:
• Anxiety
• Depression
• Guilt
• Shame
• Anger
• Aloneness
• Emptiness
• Addictions
• Dysfunctional relationships
Over time, these emotional states can contribute to serious physical health issues, including:
• Muscle tension and pain
• Sleep disturbances
• Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
• Heart disease and hypertension
• Substance abuse
• Obesity
• Diabetes
• Headaches and migraines
• Panic attacks
• TMJ disorders
Finding a Way Forward
Healing from these conditions is possible by cultivating a spiritually connected, loving adult who can identify and challenge the false beliefs that sustain the wounded self. Through this process, you can break free from the cycle of pain and create a resilient, empowered sense of self.
